Our company's Exploratory Science Center in Cambridge provides a unique experience to contribute to our company's drug discovery efforts at one of the earliest stages of the process.  To this end, we strive to create a fast-paced, nimble and flexible environment of mutual respect, creativity, invention, and teamwork.  Co-op students will be part of a highly collaborative and innovative scientific culture with the ultimate goal of learning new biology, chemistry, and technology that drives therapeutic development.  Students will be exposed to immunology, microbiology, chemical biology, synthetic chemistry, and bioactive discovery both within our company's Exploratory Science Center and other sites across the country.  With access to our company's proven global R&D organization, you’ll have the opportunity to collaborate with talented and dedicated colleagues while developing and expanding your career.

This co-op position will work with a diverse group within the molecular chemistry group and will assist with basic techniques in support of bioconjugation and chemical biology research. This will include protein chemistry, analytical chemistry, buffer preparation, reagents, and purification. The co-op will apply pre-defined procedures to execute experiments, observe all details, and record results in a highly organized manner. Co-ops will have the opportunity to gain further knowledge and skillsets via refinement of biochemistry skills, introduction to new spectroscopic and purification techniques, exposure to problems in process and discovery research, and perspective on the practical aspects of drug development. In addition, the co-op will have an opportunity to present their research results in both oral and written formats.

We are seeking candidates at all levels with strong academic performance, communication skills, teamwork, and the ability to work in a multi-functional environment.

Location: Cambridge, MA

Duration: 6 months: January-June 2022

Required Education & Experience:

  • Candidates must be currently enrolled as an undergraduate majoring in chemistry, biochemistry, or chemical biology or related field as a sophomore or above OR a currently enrolled graduate student pursuing a Master's or Ph.D. in chemistry, biochemistry, chemical biology, or related field.

  • Candidates must be legally eligible to work in the US

  • Candidates must have completed at least (1) college-level chemistry and/or biochemistry laboratory course.

Preferred Experience & Skills:

  • Candidates should have a GPA of 3.2 or higher

  • Candidates should have basic laboratory skills and research experience, such as: pipetting, buffer preparation, and safe lab practices

  • Candidates should be highly motivated and willing to take initiative to learn new science.

  • Candidates should be a strong team player

  • Candidates should have excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Candidates should be comfortable using a PC computer and proficient in Windows-based operating systems and basic applications, such as spreadsheets and databases.
